Our Story

How it all started...

The history of Hope began in 1935 when a challenge was given in an evening service to members of First Reformed Church in downtown to do “missions where you live”.  After that meeting two members were impassioned by God and began going where no one else was willing to go…"the country”…Grand Haven Township.

The two became four as John Freeze, Frank Kieft, Clarence Reenders and Arthur Reenders  did everything they could to reach specifically the children and youth in the community.  They did things in very “unconventional” ways such as meeting in the basement of a bar, spending hours picking up kids by the bus full, and annual outreach events.

Joining God to bring  Heaven...here!

Several buildings later and the challenge remains the same  of doing mission where we live.  What started as 2 people has grown to hundreds that are really striving to accomplish Jesus vision for the church as He prayed Matthew 6:10, "Your Kingdom come your will be done on Earth just like it is in Heaven."  We are actively joining God to bring Heaven...here through the ministries reaching children, youth and families in the community of Grand Haven!

Where we are headed...

The future is bright for Hope Church as we look ahead to the future.  We will continue to join God in what He is doing in our community.  We will do that with the best that Heaven has to offer.  We will love the people that are a part of our community and encourage everyone to join us in what God is doing...next!
